British High Commissioner-designate Jane Marriott ‘Delighted’ to Arrive in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Jane Marriott CMG OBE, British High Commissioner-designate to Pakistan, has arrived in Islamabad on Sunday to assume her new responsibilities at British High Commission Islamabad.

Jane arrives in Islamabad at an important time for UK-Pakistan ties, with a considerable uplift in UK aid spend in Pakistan focussed on consolidating climate resilience and decreasing humanitarian risks.

In June, the United Kingdom also launched the new Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which will help Pakistan to increase exports by slashing tariffs and simplifying trade terms.

Jane Marriott said that she was delighted to be here in Pakistan, a nation that was very important to, and has long-standing ties with the UK.

People of Pakistani heritage in the Britian lauded

With more than 1.6 million people of Pakistani heritage in the Britian making up every part of British society, the UK-Pakistan have a special and ever-growing special bond, she said.

She added that Pak-Uk ties stem from their shared values abd history, strong people-to-people contacts, strengthend trade links and a renewed partnership in development.

Jane Marriott said that she would be working hard to continue to further consolidate these bilateral relations.

The diplomat said that with the climate emergency, an increasing threat to health and livelihoods across the globe, she has special interest in ensuring the bilateral ties between between the two countries are green and sustainable.
