ISLAMABAD: The British High Commission in Pakistan celebrated the 40th anniversary of Pakistani recipients of Commonwealth and Chevening scholarships on Monday.
A press release issued by the British High Commission read that UK, this year, granted Chevening scholarships to 46 exceptional Pakistanis including two female Hindu students and one transgender woman.
In addition, 23 Commonwealth scholars were chosen from Pakistan, comprising 21 pursuing Master’s programs and two engaged in PhD programs. These exceptional scholars were selected from various regions of Pakistan.
As a tribute to the late human rights advocate Asma Jahangir, the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, presented the Asma Jahangir Award to the top-ranking female Chevening scholar of the year.
In a unique occurrence this year, three accomplished females shared this award. The recipients were Anila Yousaf and Zaitoon Kareem from Baluchistan, and Varsha Deepak from Sindh, bringing the total number of recipients to nine since its launch in 2018.
69 Pakistanis Awarded Chevening Scholarships
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott remarked, “In this significant 40th anniversary year of the Chevening program, I take pride in sending 69 Pakistani students to the UK through Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships.”
These scholars have chosen a diverse array of fields and institutions for their studies, encompassing education, social justice, architectural engineering, and sustainability. Their endeavors are aimed at addressing pressing global challenges and fostering innovation.
