JERUSALEM: UK’s foreign minister, David Lammy, on Friday strongly condemned a deadly Israeli settler attack on a Palestinian village calling it “abhorrent”.
“The scenes overnight of the burning and the torching of buildings, of the Molotov cocktails thrown at cars… and chasing of people from their homes is abhorrent, and I condemn it in the strongest of terms,” he said while talking to reporters during a visit to Jerusalem.
On Thursday, Jewish settlers attacked a Palestinian village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, killing a 23-year-old man and drawing widespread condemnation.
France’s Stephane Sejourn who is also accompanying Lammy in the visit said any action that could jeopardize the negotiation process towards a ceasefire deal is unacceptable.
Earlier, the U.S. National Security Council urged Israeli authorities to protect all communities and hold perpetrators accountable.
The Israeli military reported that masked settlers entered Jit, setting the vehicles on fire and structures and throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails. Israeli President Isaac Herzog also condemned the attack.
