British Envoy Eyes Strengthening Trade Relations with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott, is set to make her maiden visit to the Pakistan port city Karachi, aligning with the eagerly awaited arrival of the Royal Navy’s HMS Lancaster.

During her visit, she will engage with business, political, and community leaders, with a specific focus on fortifying UK-Pakistan trade connections. The current bilateral trade stands at over £4 billion, marking an almost twofold in just three years, read a press release from the British High Commission on Saturday.

British, Pakistan Navy Joint Exercise

The British High Commissioner will also pay a visit to HMS Lancaster in Karachi, taking part in a routine bilateral training exercise between the British Royal Navy and the Pakistan Navy. These exercises form a facet of ‘Defence Diplomacy’ activities, a testament to the UK’s commitment to nurturing its well-established defense relationship with Pakistan.

Expressing her viewpoint, the High Commissioner noted that Karachi stands as one of Pakistan’s prime venues to discuss business, being the country’s bustling hub and home to some of its most pioneering industries. She expressed anticipation to engage with UK and Pakistani businesses, seeking ways to bolster each other’s ambitious trade aspirations.
