LAHORE: British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott, visited the iconic Badshahi Mosque where she was warmly welcomed by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, the Chairman of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
During the visit, Maulana Azad briefed her about the historical significance and architectural splendor of the mosque.
Maulana Azad, also serving as the Khateeb and Imam of the Badshahi Mosque, extended cordial greetings to the British High Commissioner and engaged in discussions on matters of mutual concern. The recent tragic incident in Jaranwala was one of the key topics of conversation.
In the context of the Jaranwala incident, Maulana Azad underscored the vital role of religious leaders and scholars from diverse faiths. He emphasized the significance of safeguarding the rights of minorities, assuring that Islam inherently ensures the protection of minority rights. He reiterated that the responsibility for implementing penalties lies with the state, aligning with Pakistan’s national principle.
Expressing strong condemnation for the incident, Maulana Azad asserted that the government, armed forces, and the entire nation are firm in preventing such occurrences in the future. He emphasized the need for effective measures and practical wisdom to ensure lasting peace.
Maulana Azad conveyed to the British High Commissioner the solidarity and collaboration of compassionate individuals and minority communities in Pakistan. He particularly praised the swift efforts of Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar and Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in rebuilding the affected residences and places of worship in Jaranwala.
During the meeting, Maulana Azad also presented the comprehensive national narrative “Paigham-e-Pakistan” to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott. In response, Commissioner Marriott commended his leadership and valuable contributions in addressing the situation effectively.
