British Council Pakistan Announces Scholarships for 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: The British Council Pakistan on Friday announced the 3rd cohort of STEM Scholarships for Women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

According to a news release more than 100 scholarships are available to female STEM scholars from Asia to pursue their master’s degree in the UK. It added that 48 scholarships are reserved only for women STEM scholars from Pakistan and other South Asian nations. The statement maintained that all scholarships awarded on a merit basis to provide opportunities to women to pursue their higher studies.

The aim of the scholarships is to enhance careers in STEM for the selected female scholars and enable them to further promote research and innovation in their home country via their exposure to the expertise in the United Kingdom’s renowned fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Partnering with twenty-one universities across the United Kingdom, the scholarship will provide scholars with a fully-funded master’s degree at a UK university. The scholarship will cover stipend, tuition fees, travel costs, health coverage fees, visa, special support for mothers and English language support.

It will also provide the scholars with a long-lasting platform to connect with the United Kingdom through active engagement in the alumni network and inspire the upcoming generation of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

It may be recalled that in the last cohort, 115 women were selected worldwide which included 15 scholars from Pakistan.

Director, British Council Pakistan, Amir Ramzan hoped that these scholarships will enable talented women in Pakistan to take up a life-changing opportunity to enhance their careers in their fields, and then to connect the experience to make a huge impact for good when they return home country.

He added that in previous year’s scholars from the South Asian country studied diverse areas like Digital Health Systems, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Data and Decision Analytics, and Environmental Sustainability. He said that he would highly encourage talented women in Pakistan to apply for this opportunity at the earliest.”

The deadline for application differs as per the university but is between March-May 2023.
