LONDON: Britain will provide an additional $37.38 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza, Foreign Secretary David Cameron said on Friday as he visits the occupied Palestinian territories on the second day of his visit to the region.

Cameron plans to meet Palestinian leaders and aid agencies.

Ahead of the four-day truce between Israel and Hamas – which came into effect on Friday morning – Cameron met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Cameron urged all involved parties to continue working towards the freedom of every hostage. He emphasized the importance of the truce in facilitating access for life-saving aid to the people of Gaza.

Cameron highlighted the recent landing of a fourth UK flight carrying critical supplies in Egypt and disclosed a new commitment of £30 million in funding. This funding will be allocated to essential aid, including shelter and medical provisions.

The new pledge effectively doubles the amount of additional aid that Britain has promised to Gaza since the conflict began in October.
