LONDON: Danielle Fishel, renowned for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the beloved television series ‘Boy Meets World,’ has revealed on her podcast Pod Meets World that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
In the August 19 episode, Fishel, 43, announced that she has been diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), a non-invasive form of breast cancer that is classified as “technically stage zero.” Despite the early stage of the diagnosis, Fishel revealed that her condition is “high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion”.
Fishel explained that she had initially intended to keep her diagnosis private, sharing the news only with close family and friends. However, inspired by insights from author Glennon Doyle, she decided to publicly share her experience to offer support and encouragement to others facing similar challenges. “They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine,” Fishel assured her listeners.
Encouraging her audience to prioritize their health, Fishel urged those who may have postponed medical appointments to take action. “If it’s time for your appointment, if you’ve never had an appointment before, get in there,” she said.
Fishel expressed optimism about her prognosis, despite the upcoming challenges. She is currently working with a team of medical professionals, including oncologists and radiation specialists, to determine the most effective treatment plan. “I’m consulting with a great team of doctors to make sure we tackle this head-on,” she noted.
The actress’s announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from her friends and colleagues. Her Boy Meets World co-stars, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, were among the first to offer their encouragement. “You are going to be fine, and you might have some sucky days coming up, but we’re here for you,” Friedle reassured her during the podcast episode.
