RIYADH: Tommy Fury beat Jake Paul by split decision in their highly anticipated eight-round fight at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Fury, 23, was the busier fighter, landing more accurate shots and demonstrating his boxing fundamentals.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul put up a solid fight, also knocking down Fury in the eighth round but he came up short as Fury managed to escape with a split decision victory. Two judges scored it 76-73 to Fury, one scoring 75-74 in favour of Paul.

The former Love-Island star and the brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, came out far more aggressive than he had in previous fights, bringing the fight right to Paul from the opening bell. His jab was a key factor throughout the fight, constantly popping the American in the face and keeping him from gaining the comfort to stay in range and unleash the big overhand right that had previously dropped many opponents. Paul continued to fire back and also went through his own strong stretches, slowing down Fury’s pace at multiple ocassions.

Fury now remains undefeated in all nine of his professional bouts.

Jake Paul hints at exercising rematch clause

Paul, 26, entered the fight with a rematch clause in place, in case Fury manages to pull off what was a small upset in terms of betting odds. He gave Fury credit in the post-fight interview, but also clarified that he intended to exercise that clause.
