Bosnia Town Welcomes Back Stolen Bruce Lee Statue

SARJEVO: A life-size statue honouring martial arts legend Bruce Lee has been returned to its original location in the Bosnian town of Mostar, more than a year after it was stolen, local media reported Wednesday.

The bronze statue, depicting Lee in a defensive pose holding nunchaku, was first unveiled in a Mostar park in 2005. Over the years, it became a symbol of unity in a town still marked by divisions between Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Muslims, but it was repeatedly vandalized.

The statue went missing in March 2024, only to be discovered a few days later in several pieces, apparently dismantled for sale as scrap metal. Authorities quickly tracked down the perpetrator, who was later sentenced to 10 months in prison.

The theft had sparked widespread public outrage in Mostar, where the statue had grown into a local attraction. On Wednesday, Elvira Cemalovic, head of the town’s tourist board, highlighted the statue’s significance for the community, calling it a symbol of “justice and peace, according to N1 regional broadcaster.
