WARSAW, Poland: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to meet with senior Polish officials on Thursday to discuss bolstering support for Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia and to enhance U.S.-Poland defence cooperation.
After visiting Kyiv, where Ukrainian officials urged for Western missiles to be allowed deep into Russian territory, Blinken will hold talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, President Andrzej Duda, and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
With Russia intensifying its attacks in Ukraine’s east, Kyiv’s recent military actions in Russia’s Kursk region have stalled, adding urgency to the discussions. The security of Poland’s eastern flank and its response to Russia’s invasion will be a key topic. Poland has heightened its defence efforts since the war began, increasing military spending, which is projected to reach a record 186.6 billion zlotys ($47.95 billion) in 2025.
Additionally, deepening energy cooperation is on the agenda. Talks will likely include Poland’s plans for its first nuclear power plant, emphasizing energy security alongside military preparedness in response to the ongoing regional instability.
