WASHINGTON: Officials said Tuesday that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is likely to reschedule an abandoned trip to Beijing in the coming weeks.
The US top diplomat had been set to visit to Beijing in February but canceled the tour after Washington detected and then shot down what it said was a Chinese spy balloon over US.

But both sides gave a positive assessment of a recent trip to China by top US officials, which included Daniel Kritenbrink, who also organized Antony Blinken’s last planned visit.
A US official told AFP on condition of anonymity that US Secretary of State was likely to reschedule his trip to Beijing in the next weeks but stressed that no date had been finalized.
US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that the recent dialogue in China touched on “the potential for future trips” and were “useful.”
Regarding Antony Blinken’s trip to China, State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said “We look forward to rescheduling that trip when conditions permit.”
“There is no substitute for in-person engagements, whether they be in the United States or China, to carry forward our talks,” Patel told journalists.
Tensions between the US and China have soared in recent years on a host of issues including security and trade. US Presidents Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping also agreed to work to avoid miscalculations when the leaders held talks in Bali in last November, but tensions soon soared again over the issue of balloon.
