WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that while Kyiv has reconquered half the territory that Moscow initially seized in its invasion, Ukraine faced a “a very tough fight” to win back more.
“It’s already taken back regarding fifty percent of what was initially seized,” Antony Blinken claimed in an interview to a US television on Sunday.

“These are still comparatively early days of the counteroffensive. It is hard,” the US Secretary of State said.

Hopes that Kyiv could quickly clear Russia’s troops from its territory after the launch of a summer counteroffensive are fading as Ukraine’s troops struggle to breach Russian positions in south and east parts of the country.
Earlier, Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy was quoted as saying that progress against Russian troops was “slower than desired” but that Ukraine would not be pressured into speeding it up.
