BAGHDAD: Emergency services said that a blaze killed four people in the Iraqi shrine city of Karbala Friday as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims began gathering to mark Ashura.
The blaze erupted in an alleyway near the mausoleum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A).

Local officials said the blaze was sparked by a gas bottle in the kitchen” of a refreshment tent established for pilgrims and then spread into an adjacent area. Fire crews arrived on the site and put out the fire “in record time.
