QUETTA: At least six people were killed when a powerful explosion tore through a crowded taxi stand in the border town of Chaman in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
“The explosion took place near makeshift shops,” Assistant Commissioner Chaman Imtiaz Baloch told the media. Police and Levies forces rushed to the scene and shifted the dead and injured to the district hospital.
Officials said the bomb was planted near makeshift shops at the Pak-Afghan border. Emergency teams rushed the dead and injured to the hospital, while security personnel cordoned off the area.
The Balochistan Home Department confirmed the casualties, vowing that those behind the attack would be brought to justice. Pakistan has repeatedly said that terrorist groups operate from inside Afghanistan and launch cross-border attacks against its security forces and civilians.”
Separately, Pakistan’s military said four terrorists linked to an “Indian proxy” group were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Khuzdar. Weapons and explosives were seized, and follow-up operations are continuing.
The province has witnessed a surge in militant attacks in recent weeks. Authorities said counterterrorism operations will continue until all armed groups threatening the country’s stability are dismantled.
Islamabad maintains that many of the attacks are planned and executed from Afghan soil, accusing the Kabul government of providing shelter and support to militant groups.
Pakistan has time and again called on Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used for launching attacks against Pakistan.
