DAMASCUS: Seven children were killed in Syria’s southern Daraa province on Saturday when an “explosive device” detonated, state media reported.

The explosion occurred in the city of Sanamayn, leaving a trail of destruction and loss. According to the state news agency SANA, a police source confirmed that the blast killed seven children while injuring two others, including a woman.

However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights provided a conflicting toll, stating that “eight children of different ages were killed, and another was wounded” in the explosion. The monitor suggested that militias planted the device with the intention of targeting an unidentified persons in the area.

The tragic incident underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria, which has been ravaged by a relentless war for over a decade. The conflict has resulted in the loss of over 507,000 lives, displaced millions, and caused widespread devastation to the country’s infrastructure and industries.
