MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow withdrew from the Black Sea grain agreement because it lost meaning.
The agreement was inked to ensure the safe export of Ukrainian grains, Reuters reported.
Black Sea Grain Agreement Became Worthless: Russian Leader
Russian President expressed his remarks in an article published on the Kremlin’s website. He wrote, “The continuance of the ‘deal’ – which did not justify its humanitarian objective- has lost its worth”.
He said that Russia’s circumstances for the extension of the agreement had been ignored, Russia last week quit the agreement which had permitted Kyiv a year ago to export grain from its Black Sea ports, despite the conflict, to ease the international food crisis.
He further wrote, “I want to promise that Russia is able to replace Ukrainian grain both commercially and free of charge, particularly since we again expect a record crop this year,”.

He further said, “Moscow will continue to energetically work on organizing the supply of food, grain, fertilizers, and more to Africa: we highly value and continue to dynamically develop the entire range of economic relations with Africa,”.
Earlier, the UN warned of escalating military actions in the Black Sea after Moscow said its Navy conducted a live fire drill there, having declared that vessels traveling to Ukraine would be considered possible military targets.
Moscow pulled out of a United Nations (UN) agreement on Monday that ensured safe passage for grain consignments crossing the Black Sea.
