GUJRANWALA: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairman Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib lauded the BISP as a shining example of a social safety net, reaching nearly 10 million needy families nationwide.
He emphasized that BISP, despite its limited resources, tirelessly cares for its beneficiaries, embodying the principles of a welfare state.
Dr. Saqib expressed these views during his visit to Jamia Masjid Mian Umar Din in Gujranwala, where he addressed a gathering of dedicated BISP staff representing the Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, and Sialkot divisions.
Dr. Amjad Saqib stressed the importance of the cash assistance provided by BISP to vulnerable families. He highlighted the pivotal role this financial aid plays in helping them meet essential household expenses, invest in their children’s education, and secure their next meal.
The Chairman of BISP also underscored the significance of two key initiatives: the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif, which educates the children of needy families, and the provision of Benazir Scholarships. These initiatives represent BISP’s commitment to empowering marginalized sections of society. Additionally, BISP is now placing a strong emphasis on imparting technical skills to these children, equipping them with the means to earn a livelihood and become productive members of society.
Addressing the BISP employees, Dr. Amjad Saqib urged them to view their roles not merely as jobs but as acts of worship. He emphasized the importance of treating women with kindness, love, and dignity. He firmly stated that considering dignified families as beggars is a grave injustice. He encouraged BISP employees to guide and assist these often-illiterate families in the best possible manner.
BISP Chairman Seeks Collaborative Approach to Enhance Program’s Impact
Dr. Amjad Saqib quoted the age-old wisdom: “If a person saves the life of another, it means he saved the whole of humanity.” He shared his vision of making BISP an exemplary organization where beneficiaries are welcomed with open hearts and treated with respect. He stressed that it is both a religious and moral duty to treat women with the utmost respect and dignity.
During his visit, Dr. Saqib emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and welcoming BISP offices, providing clean drinking water, and ensuring proper shelter and fans for women who often wait in long queues for services. He also sought input from BISP employees on ways to enhance the program’s operations and services, fostering a collaborative approach to its ongoing development.
Furthermore, Dr. Saqib discussed the potential of utilizing mosques as centers for the disbursement of stipends to BISP families, further strengthening the bond between the program and local communities. He also offered prayers with BISP employees, reinforcing the spirit of unity and purpose.
Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib’s visit to Gujranwala showcased his unwavering dedication to the values and mission of BISP, highlighting a commitment to improving the lives of countless individuals across Pakistan. Earlier in the day, he served as the Chief Guest at Rashid Latif University in Lahore, where he addressed over 500 students, faculty, and senior management, sharing stories of BISP’s journey with them.
