WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will speak on Thursday, a US official said, in their first call since an Israeli attack killed seven aid workers in Gaza.
The call comes after Joe Biden expressed outrage over the deaths of the employees of the US-based World Central Kitchen group and said Israel must do more to protect civilians and aid workers, AFP reported.
Israel’s Strike in Gaza
Netanyahu has said the Israeli troops “unintentionally” killed the aid workers in the strike in Gaza on Monday. The victims included a US-Canadian national, three Britons, an Australian, a Pole, and a Palestinian.
But Biden has led a chorus of global anger, and on Tuesday he issued one of his strongest remarks on Israel’s conduct.
Biden said he was heartbroken and outraged by the deaths, adding that incidents like this simply should not happen.
The White House admitted that President Joe Biden was becoming increasingly frustrated with the failure of Israel to protect civilians and aid workers despite repeated appeals to Benjamin Netanyahu.
