HELSINKI: US President Joe Biden has claimed that Russian President Putin has already lost the war in Ukraine and hoped that Ukraine’s counter-offensive would force Russia to the negotiations, AFP reported on Thursday.

Biden Declares Putin Has “Already Lost” War in Ukraine

The US President said there was no actual prospect of the Russian President using nuclear arms and maintained the war would not drag on for years after Russians launched fresh assaults and a new bout of nuclear-sabre rattling, AFP reported.

Putin has a real issue and already lost the war,” President Biden told a news conference with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto. He claimed that there was no possibility of Putin winning the war in Ukraine.

Biden’s recent comments came as leaders of the NATO alliance had ruined Zelensky’s hopes for a clear timeline to join NATO.

President Biden said no nation could join NATO while it was at war — with Kyiv joining now meaning a “third world war” — he promised Ukraine would one day join the alliance.

Russia’s reply to the NATO summit came in the form of its latest airstrike on Ukraine, injuring four persons, while Ukraine said it had destroyed 20 drones and 2 cruise missiles.

In a mark of its anger at Western support for Ukraine, Russia said it would regard F-16 jets provided to Kyiv as a “nuclear” threat due to their capacity to carry nuclear bombs.

“Moscow cannot overlook the ability of these jets to carry atomic arms. No assurance will help here,” Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said.

US President Joe Biden arrived in Finland after attending the NATO summit. The development came as G7 countries vowed to back Kyiv for as long as it takes to beat Moscow.
