BERLIN, Germany: During his farewell visit to Germany, President Joe Biden, alongside European leaders, reaffirmed calls for a Gaza ceasefire following Israel’s claim of killing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

In Berlin, Biden engaged with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss the Israel-Hamas conflict and ongoing support for Ukraine’s defence against Russia. Biden emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, with hopes of a political resolution.

Scholz, supporting Biden’s initiative, highlighted the necessity of further dialogue to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, especially as President Zelensky had presented his “victory plan” in Brussels the day before.

Biden’s visit, while brief due to prior commitments, reaffirmed sustained military and financial support for Ukraine, a critical topic for European leaders concerned about wavering commitments from NATO members.

This trip marked an important effort to solidify alliances ahead of potential political shifts in the US with Trump’s potential return to the White House.
