BERLIN: Berlin wants to help nations that are rich in minerals such as Indonesia, Chile, and Namibia to build their own processing infrastructure to reduce dependency on China, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday.

Reuters reported that Germany is trying to rebalance its ties with Beijing and reduce reliance on it for key inputs and other critical minerals.
The German Chancellor said that if they succeed in locating more processing measures, then that will not only generate greater local prosperity … they will also ensure that they have more than just one supplier in upcoming years.
He added that his country supported a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the European Union, which the two sides have been discussing since 2016.
He said that they will finally get the deal across the finish line now, saying that geopolitical developments in Asia and Europe argued for similar agreements with other countries such as Australia, Mexico and Kenya.
