BRUSSELS: Belgium has approached Ukraine for clarifications following reports indicating that Belgian-manufactured weapons were allegedly used by anti-Kremlin fighters in Russia, announced Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Monday.
Speaking to Belgian state radio, De Croo emphasized the need for Ukraine to provide clarity on the situation. He stated, “The rule is strict, it is clear; our weapons supplied to Ukraine are for defensive purposes, to (defend) Ukrainian territory.”
De Croo’s remarks came in response to a report published by The Washington Post, which claimed that Western arms had been utilized in Russia’s Belgorod region.
Ukraine Uses Western Arms in Attack on Russia
According to US intelligence sources cited by the newspaper, four armored vehicles provided by the United States and Poland to Ukraine were employed in an attack that took place last month. Additionally, the fighters involved in the assault reportedly used rifles manufactured in Belgium and the Czech Republic.
Belgium, as a member of NATO, has been among several Western countries that have supplied weaponry to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
