ISLAMABAD: Belgium’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Charles Joseph M Delogne, has praised Pakistan’s efforts to bring peace and stability to the region. He said this during a seminar held in Islamabad.
The seminar, titled “Pak-Belgium Relations: Past, Present and Future,” was organized by the Policy Institute for Peace and Development (PIPD) and Bahria University.
During the seminar, the Ambassador highlighted the friendly and cooperative relationship between Pakistan and Belgium, which dates back to 1948, soon after Pakistan’s independence.
The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy and people-to-people contact in strengthening the ties between the two nations. He highlighted the two kinds of academic scholarships that can be acquired by HEC and the Ministry of Education directly with the counterparts in Brussels – ARES and VLIR-OUS.
Wadana Khattak, President of the Policy Institute of Peace and Development, stressed the need for cross-cultural partnership between Pakistan and Belgium, both at the government and public levels.
Khattak added that cultural exchange in areas such as art, music, and sports could help build a stronger and lasting relationship between the two countries.
Relations between Pakistan and Belgium
Dr. Adam Saud, Dean of the Department of Social Sciences, presented a scholarly expose on the historical and current perspective of relations between Pakistan and Belgium while exploring new domains of cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties.
Dr. Saud said there were numerous areas in which Belgium and Pakistan could work jointly to benefit mutually, including information technology, science, medical and industrial research, and agricultural innovation.
Belgium and Pakistan have strong trade and economic ties in the areas of Textile, Pharmaceutical products, machinery, medical equipment, iron, steel, and chemicals. The seminar emphasized the importance of maintaining these relations and exploring new areas of collaboration.
The seminar concluded with the belief that Pakistan and Belgium’s diplomatic relations would continue strengthening based on shared values of democracy, pluralism, and trust. The seminar encouraged further collaboration between the two nations to build a stronger and lasting relationship.
