ISLAMABAD: Belgium Ambassidor Charles Delogne called on Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf at Parliament House on Thursday, where both discussed issues of mutual interest. The Belgium envoy also expressed solidarity with the flood-affected people of Pakistan.

In his remarks, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that enhancing parliamentary interactions and economic cooperation between countries was vital for the prosperity of the people and their well-being. He further said that the official visit of the seven-member Belgium’s Parliamentary delegation in Pakistan from January 16 to 20, 2023 would no doubt enhance parliamentary cooperation between both nations mutual interests.

Raja Pervez Ashraf further added that Pakistan had been experiencing severe impacts of global climate change as there has been huge destruction of properties and loss of lives of the people. He appreciated the backing of the people and government of Belgian for being the first country to assist Pakistan in flood rehabilitation initiatives.

Mutual Interests

The speaker emphasized the need to expedite the mutual interests between the business communities of both countries to explore the massive economic potential in Pakistan. “Pakistan attributes great importance to its relations with Belgium which are based on close people-to-people contacts,” he added.

He said that both countries share the same cultural and language diversity. He further added that Belgium was the first country to back Pakistan, especially in flood relief efforts.
