BEIJING: Washington’s announcement of sending an “unofficial” delegation to Taiwan after its recent elections, China has sternly called on the United States to “refrain from intervening” in the island’s electoral affairs.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that any form of official exchanges between the US and Taiwan is staunchly opposed by China.
“China always firmly opposes any form of official exchanges between the US and Taiwan,” Mao asserted, emphasizing the indivisibility of Taiwan as an integral part of China. She urged Washington to avoid actions that could lead to potential harm in China-US relations.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction, Mao condemned a US warning to Beijing regarding tensions surrounding the polls, declaring Taiwan as the “core of China’s core interests” and a non-negotiable red line in China-US relations.
“Taiwan is the number one red line that must not be transgressed,” Mao stressed, underlining the significance of the “One China” policy. She urged the US to honor commitments made by leaders of both nations, emphasizing the need for practical actions.
