BEIJING: China has said that it hopes ties with the United States can improve whoever wins the presidential elections in November. China and the US have clashed in recent years on flashpoint matters from trade and technology to human rights, as well as over Taiwan and competing claims in the South China Sea, local media reported on Monday.

Voters in the US go to the elections this November in an election that will likely pit former President Donald Trump against the President Joe Biden for the keys to the office of the President.

China’s parliament spokesman Lou Qinjian told a news conference in reply to a question about the elections and said that the US presidential election is an internal affair of the US.  Lou stated that no matter who becomes the president of the US, they hope that the US can work in the same direction with Beijing and work for a healthy, stable, and sustainable China-US ties.

Lou Qinjian said that to stabilize and enhance China-US ties is something that everyone follows closely and expects to see, he added, saying: “China’s stance has been consistent.”
