ISLAMABAD: The second T20 International between Bangladesh and Pakistan, scheduled for today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, will be held in observance of National Mourning Day, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced.

This follows a tragic incident on Monday, when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a school and college campus in Dhaka, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 individuals and injuring 171 others. According to the military, the crash occurred shortly after take-off due to a technical fault.

The day has been dedicated to honouring the memory of the victims of the Milestone air crash, with the BCB organising several tributes in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Offering special prayers

As part of the commemorations, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at the stadium and all other BCB venues. Special prayers will be offered for the victims.

A minute’s silence will be observed prior to the start of the match, and both players and match officials will wear black armbands. Additionally, no music will be played during the fixture, in order to maintain a respectful and solemn atmosphere.

It is worth noting that the home side currently leads the three-match T20I series 1–0, having convincingly won the opening encounter on Sunday.

The Bengal Tigers bowled Pakistan out for 110 and chased down the target comfortably, with Parvez Hossain Emon starring with a match-winning half-century.

For context, the third and final match of the series is set to be played at the same venue on 24 July.
