DAMASCUS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged warm congratulations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Syria and the Russian Federation, as reported by the state-run SANA news agency.
In his cable to President Putin, President al-Assad emphasized the longstanding support and solidarity shared between Syria and Russia over the past eight decades. Despite facing various pressures and attempts to undermine their sovereignty, President al-Assad highlighted that both nations have stood firm on principles of dignity and mutual respect.
President al-Assad further praised Russia’s consistent positions, which he believes contribute to establishing a multipolar world amidst contemporary global challenges and conflicts. He underscored the resilience of both nations in the face of hegemonic forces, stating, “In light of the challenges and wars we are witnessing, our ultimate response remains resilience, not retreat or defeat.”
The Syrian President extended his congratulations to the Russian people, expressing gratitude for their enduring friendship and trust over the decades. He commended Russia’s policies based on principles of respecting states’ sovereignty and wished for continuous progress and prosperity in Syrian-Russian relations.
President Putin reciprocated by reaffirming Russia’s unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He emphasized the mutual goal of promoting peace and stability regionally and globally through the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
President Putin conveyed his congratulations to President al-Assad and the Syrian people, wishing them prosperity and success. He acknowledged the joint efforts between Syria and Russia across various fields, particularly highlighting their successful collaboration in combating terrorism.
