ISLAMABAD: Jammu Kashmir National Front (JKNF) Vice Chairman Altaf Hussain Wani has strongly criticized India’s decision to ban the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), calling it as part of the Modi government’s ongoing campaign to stifle legitimate political discourse in Kashmir.
In a statement released today, Mr. Wani condemned the Indian government’s recurring pattern of imposing sanctions on political parties and individuals who express criticism of its aggressive policies towards the Kashmiri population.
He emphasized that these oppressive and outdated tactics would not deter Kashmiris from pursuing their political aspirations. Mr. Wani called on the Indian authorities to take a lesson from recent history, stressing that even if they were to ban the entire political leadership and their parties in Kashmir, it would not suppress the Kashmiri people’s legitimate struggle.
JKNF Leader Highlights India’s Failed Tactics
He pointed out that India had previously banned organizations like Jammat e Islami and JKLF while labeling their members as anti-state, but such measures had only strengthened the determination of Kashmiris and intensified their resentment toward India.
Mr. Wani urged the Indian government to recognize that Kashmir is fundamentally a political dispute that cannot be swept under the rug by silencing legitimate political voices or by imprisoning and targeting those who dare to speak out against the injustices faced by the Kashmiri population.
