This group has been behind recent street protests against civil service hiring regulations.
The protests, which erupted in deadly violence, resulted in at least 193 deaths, according to an AFP tally based on reports from police and hospitals. This unrest is among the worst seen during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration.
Gonoshasthaya hospital supervisor Anwara Begum Lucky confirmed to AFP that detectives from the Detective Branch had insisted on the discharge of the student leaders, despite her reluctance. She said that police pressure had forced the hospital chief to comply.
Islam’s elder sister, Fatema Tasnim, reported that six plainclothes detectives had taken all three men from the hospital.
