MIRPUR, Bangladesh: Bangladesh tightened their grip on the first Test against Pakistan, ending day four at 152-3 to take a commanding 179-run lead before bad light halted play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.

The final session was cut short after the entire second session had been washed out by persistent rain.

After early jolts from Pakistan’s pace attack, Mohammad Abbas trapping Mahmudul Hasan Joy (5) lbw and Hasan Ali removing Shadman Islam (10), Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the innings with a composed 105-run partnership.

Both batsmen notched half-centuries, with Mominul falling for 56 off 120 balls (four fours) to Shaheen Afridi. Shanto remained unbeaten on 58 (106 balls, six fours), alongside Mushfiqur Rahim (16* off 31, three fours).

Earlier, Bangladesh had posted 413 in their first innings, powered by Shanto’s 101, Mominul’s 91, and Mushfiqur’s 71. Mohammad Abbas led Pakistan’s attack with 5/92.

In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 386, with debutant Azan Awais scoring 103 and three other half-centuries, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 5/102 ensured Bangladesh eked out a slender 27-run first-innings lead.
