Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina to Embark on Bilateral Visit to China Tomorrow

DHAKA: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to embark on a four-day bilateral visit to Beijing, aimed at bolstering the diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and China to a “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.”

Prime Minister Hasina will depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport aboard a chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at 11am local time tomorrow, scheduled to arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport at 6pm (Beijing time) the same day.

During her stay in Beijing from July 8 to 11, Prime Minister Hasina is slated to engage in crucial meetings with top Chinese leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and her counterpart, Premier Li Qiang.

According to Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the visit is anticipated to witness the signing of 20 to 22 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering a wide array of sectors such as economic cooperation, banking, trade and investment, digital economy, infrastructure development, disaster management assistance, and the construction of key infrastructure projects like the 6th and 9th Bangladesh-China friendship bridges. Additionally, agreements on the export of agricultural products and enhancing people-to-people connectivity are also expected to be inked.

“This visit will mark a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China, especially as both nations prepare to celebrate the golden jubilee of their diplomatic ties next year,” Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud stated during a press conference.

Prime Minister Hasina’s agenda in Beijing includes participation in a summit focused on trade, business, and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and China at the China World Summit Wing, Shangri-La Circle. She will also meet with Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and attend a meeting with the President of the Consultative Party at the Great Hall of the People.
