Bangladesh: Dengue Death Toll Exceeds 900

DHAKA: More than 900 people have died of dengue fever, out of 187,725 cases reported across Bangladesh so far this year, health department figures showed on Sunday.

According to data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, the 909 recorded deaths include 316 in September, 342 in August, and 204 in July.

September alone has seen 63,917 new cases of dengue, following 71,976 in August and 43,854 in July. In the last 24 hours leading up to 8:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, the country reported an additional 16 deaths and 3,008 new dengue infections.

176,346 patients have successfully recovered from the disease so far this year, according to the DGHS.

The June-September monsoon period is the season of dengue fever in Bangladesh, which is considered a high-risk country prone to mosquito-borne illness. —APP
