  • Bangladesh to host The Netherlands for three T20Is
  • Asia Cup begins 9 September in UAE

ISLAMABAD: The Bangladesh and Afghanistan cricket boards have announced their preliminary squads for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, with both sides also set to play preparatory T20I fixtures ahead of the tournament.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday named a 25-member preliminary squad for the Asia Cup and the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands, scheduled to begin at the end of August.

Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan has earned a recall, while all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain remains overlooked despite consistent domestic performances. He was also omitted from the Bangladesh A squad for their upcoming tour.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz retains his spot despite a poor run of form in recent T20Is, while Litton Das continues as captain.

Training camp

Several players, including Nurul, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Saif Hassan, Hasan Mahmud, and Mohammad Naim Sheikh, will miss the initial stages of the training camp as they travel to Australia for the Top End T20 Series in Darwin. The group departs on 9 August and will also play a four-day match against South Australia.

According to the BCB, players available in Dhaka will report for a fitness camp at the SBNCS, Mirpur, on 6 August. Skill training begins on 15 August, before the camp moves to Sylhet on 20 August. The Netherlands team is due to arrive on 26 August, with T20Is scheduled for 30 August, 1 September, and 3 September, all in Sylhet.

Provisional squad

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has named a 22-member provisional squad for two key assignments: a T20I tri-series involving Pakistan and hosts UAE, followed by the Asia Cup 2025.

The tri-series will be held entirely at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from 29 August to 7 September, with each side playing the others twice before the final. Afghanistan open their campaign against Pakistan on 29 August.

Originally scheduled as a bilateral series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the format was revised at PCB’s proposal to create a tri-nation competition, offering teams vital match practice ahead of the T20 Asia Cup and next year’s T20 World Cup.

The Afghan squad features experienced names like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, alongside emerging players such as Wafiullah Tarakhil and Mohammad Ishaq. The final 15 for both events will be picked following a two-week training camp.

The Asia Cup 2025 will run from 9 to 28 September in the UAE in the T20 format.
