CAIRO: Bahrain and Qatar will resume their diplomatic relations, the Qatari foreign ministry said on Wednesday. Bahrain news agency (BNA) also reported that the two countries would restore diplomatic relations. The development comes more than two years following an Arab boycott of Qatar was lifted.

Bahrain-Qatar ties

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Bahrain in January 2021 ended an embargo of Qatar, but Bahrain restored trade and travel links in 2021. The two sides said in separate statements that Qatar and Bahrain took the decision to restore diplomatic ties during a second meeting of the Bahraini-Qatari Follow-up Committee on Wednesday. The meeting was held at the office of the GCC in Riyadh.

In January, the crown prince of Bahrain spoke with the Emir of Qatar by telephone, indicating that the two nations were moving toward repairing ties.
