Bahawalpur Factories Purchase 4,275,000 Mounds of Cotton

BAHAWALPUR: The cotton and ginning factories in the Bahawalpur division have procured more than 4,275,000 mounds of cotton to produce cotton bales, with additional quantities in the pipeline.

Official sources, as reported by APP, revealed that a total of 170 cotton and ginning factories across the Bahawalpur division had been actively purchasing cotton from all three districts within the division and from nearby districts in other divisions.

They mentioned that cotton is also being transported from Sindh province to the cotton and ginning facilities in the Bahawalpur division, where it is processed into bales to supply textile mills for cloth production.

Breaking down the figures, they explained that within the Bahawalpur district, 49 cotton and ginning factories have acquired 1,138,000 mounds of cotton, while the Bahawalnagar district has seen 54 factories purchase 1,910,000 mounds of cotton.

Furthermore, in Rahimyar Khan district, 67 cotton and ginning factories have bought 1,225,000 mounds of cotton. Additionally, the cotton markets in Bahawalpur have obtained 718,000 mounds of cotton.

Officials from the office of the Commissioner of Bahawalpur Division have outlined a target to cultivate cotton on 2.3 acres of land across the three districts of Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Bahawalnagar.

A report prepared by the Ayyub Agriculture Research Institute in Faisalabad, the Government of Punjab, has emphasized that Bahawalpur is a vital region for cotton production in Punjab, historically contributing 40 percent of Punjab’s cotton and 30 percent of Pakistan’s cotton.

It’s worth noting that the current market rates for cotton in the Bahawalpur division vary between Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,000 per mound, depending on the variety and quality of the cotton. —APP
