BAGHDAD: Iraq’s capital city, Baghdad, will host the upcoming talks between Syria and Turkey aimed at normalizing bilateral relations, a senior government source in Damascus said, as cited by Al Watan newspaper.
According to the Syrian publication, the talks between Syria and Turkey are set to initiate a comprehensive negotiation process, scheduled to take place without the involvement of any third-party. The talks aim to foster political understanding and reach agreements pertaining to border areas between the two nations.
Al Watan reported that Turkey requested mediation from Russia and Iraq to facilitate the dialogue, emphasizing that the negotiations will be conducted secretly, away from the public spotlight. “The talks will be conducted away from media attention,” Al Watan quoted a government source as saying.
The agenda of the talks will encompass all necessary aspects to restore relations between Syria and Turkey to their previous state of cooperation and stability, the Syrian newspaper reported.
The decision to resume dialogue and seek reconciliation between Ankara and Damascus has received backing from Russia, China, and Iran, as confirmed by the insider source.
