PARIS, France: A bag containing a computer and two USB sticks containing police security plans for the Paris Olympics was stolen from a train at Gare du Nord station on Monday night, police officials said Tuesday.
Police confirmed the BFM TV report that the bag belonged to an engineer at the Paris municipality, adding that he had placed it in the overhead luggage compartment of his seat.
As the train was late, he decided to change the train and at that moment he noticed the robbery.
The engineer said the work computer and two USB sticks contained sensitive data, particularly the city police’s plans to ensure the safety of the Olympic Games.
An investigation by the local traffic police is ongoing. Paris city hall didn’t immediately comment on the development.
2,000 city police officers will be deployed during the Games, and a total of around 35,000 security forces are expected to be on duty each day during the Games, which open on July 26.
