LAHORE: Pakistan’s cricket team’s white-ball skipper, Babar Azam, has joined the bandwagon of diehard supporters cheering for Pakistani javelin star Arshad Nadeem. Arshad is set to compete in the event’s final on Thursday at the Paris Olympics 2024, with hopes of breaking the country’s 62-year medal drought.
The javelin thrower qualified for the final with a massive throw of 86.59 meters in his first attempt during the qualification round held on Tuesday, earning praise from Pakistan’s captain. Babar recorded a heartfelt video message for Arshad, expressing his hopes for the athlete to win an Olympic gold medal for Pakistan after 62 years.
“I wish him good luck. I request everyone to support and pray he wins the final. Chak De Phatte Arshad Nadeem,” Babar Azam stated in a video message.

As for Arshad Nadeem, he is more than ready to bring the Olympic glory Pakistan as he prepares for the final. Arshad told a local news channel that he wants to make Pakistan proud in the Olympic Games. He said he is optimistic about delivering a good result in the final. Besides this Neeraj Chopra of India also qualified for the final after an impressive throw of 89.34 metres in his first attempt.
Arshadi added that he hoped Chopra and he would make their respective countries proud. He said that Chopra is a good friend and they will focus on the final round. The final will begin today at 11:25 pm according to Pakistan Standard Time.
Arshad Nadeem won a silver medal at the World Athletics Championship in 2023. He also won gold in the Commonwealth Games 2022, becoming the first Pakistani athlete since 1962 to pull off this feat in the discipline of athletics, with a massive throw of 90.18-metre.
