ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s cricket sensation, Babar Azam reached another milestone on Saturday, becoming the fifth Pakistani to score 15,000 runs in international cricket.
The 31-year-old achieved the feat during the third and final ODI of the three-match series against South Africa at Iqbal Stadium, when he tapped Bjorn Fortuin for a single towards wide mid-on, taking his career total to 15,000 runs.
With that single, Babar Azam joined cricketing legends like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, and Javed Miandad, marking a significant achievement in his career.
Babar is now part of an exclusive club, and his 15,000 runs came in 370 innings, putting him ahead of several greats in terms of consistency and performance.
The top five in Pakistan’s list of highest international run-scorers are:
- Inzamam-ul-Haq – 20,541 runs in 547 innings
- Younis Khan – 17,790 runs in 491 innings
- Mohammad Yousuf – 17,134 runs in 426 innings
- Javed Miandad – 16,213 runs in 407 innings
- Babar Azam – 15,004 runs in 370 innings
While Babar’s milestone was celebrated, his individual innings was cut short in the match. After an impressive start, he was run out for 27 off 32 balls, which included five boundaries.
