AHMADABAD: Pakistan cricket team’s captain, Babar Azam, has acknowledged the team’s poor performance in the seven-wicket defeat against India in the World Cup on Saturday.

He expressed disappointment over the Green Shirts’s performance and recognized that their loss had a negative impact on the national side.

During the post-match ceremony, Azam conceded that Pakistan’s total of 191 runs was below par, and the batting collapse was a costly setback. India easily achieved Pakistan’s target of 192 runs in 30.3 overs at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, securing a comprehensive victory. The Green Shirts went from 155-2 to being all out for 191 in the 43rd over, witnessing a spectacular batting collapse.

India’s Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in their win, scoring 86 off 63 balls, including 12 boundaries. This victory marked India’s eighth World Cup win against Pakistan, maintaining their unbeaten record against the Green Shirts in ODI World Cups.

Babar Azam stated in the post-match ceremony, “We started well with a good partnership”, he said, adding they planned to play their normal game and build partnerships. Suddenly, there was a collapse, and we could not finish well. He said that they didn’t continue the partnerships they started and obtain the collocated 280-290 target.

He also acknowledged that Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to perform from the beginning while defending the low target. “We were not up to the mark with the new ball. The way Indian captain Rohit played was an outstanding innings. We failed to take wickets with a new ball. “
