ASTANA: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said that his country is ready to support joint initiatives with Central Asian states to address the impacts of the climate change on the region within its COP29 Presidency.
According to local media reports on Friday he was addressing the meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
“I have already sent official invitation letters to the Presidents of Central Asian countries and would be delighted to meet with you again in Baku in November,” the President of Azerbaijan underlined.
Baku will host the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference for the first time in the region. The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 on December 11. Azerbaijan successfully attended the COP28 held in Abu Dhabi last year.
Azerbaijan will take the opportunity to bring heads of state and governments, businesses, civil society organisations, and international institutions together to discuss climate change, steps to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and focus on long-term climate goals and strategies.
