ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a statement on Wednesday commemorating the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis, which marks the 105th anniversary of the March massacres.
The statement condemned the brutal massacres carried out by Dashnak-Bolshevik armed groups against tens of thousands of peaceful Azerbaijanis in Baku and other regions in 1918, resulting in the murder of more than 16,000 people and the destruction of 167 villages in Guba alone.
The statement highlighted the systematic and planned nature of the massacres, which were part of a policy of racial discrimination and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis.
Azerbaijan reiterates importance of ending Armenia’s impunity
The statement also mentioned the continuation of such policies during the 30-year-long military aggression against Azerbaijan by Armenia, including the Khojaly massacre, and the recent 44-Day Patriotic War.
Azerbaijan reiterated the importance of ending Armenia’s impunity to prevent such crimes and their recurrence, and promised to continue taking measures to end impunity in the international legal framework.
The Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis is a reminder of the innocent victims of ethnic cleansing and genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis.
Azerbaijan believes that the restoration of justice will make a significant contribution to the establishment of peace and security in the region.
