ISTANBUL: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, on Wednesday discussed bilateral relations in diverse fields.
“Having discussed issues pertaining to expanding bilateral interaction in the economic field, interlocutors underlined the importance of the joint inter-governmental commission for economic collaboration, the regular meeting of which was held in Baku on 29 November 2022,” Altyn Asyr news agency reported.
Turkmen and Azerbaijani leaders hail cooperation
The report also noted that Berdimuhamedov and Aliyev hailed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in January 2021 on the joint exploitation, development, and exploration of the Caspian Sea’s Dostluk hydrocarbon field as a “landmark.”
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the first summit between the leaders of Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan in the Awaza city. Azerbaijani President will also hold separate meetings with Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the summit’s sidelines. The People’s Council is the upper house of the Turkmen parliament.
