A local court in Islamabad on Monday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati on three-day judicial remand in a case involving a tweet against Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The Federal Investigation Agency presented Swati in court after the expiry of his extended one-day physical remand.

The PTI senator was presented before senior civil judge Muhammad Shabbir on Monday.

Swati’s counsel Babar Awan during the hearing, contended that the PTI senator suffered a fracture and an injury to one of his fingers.

On the other hand, the prosecutor sought a further three-day physical remand of Swati. The judge declined the request and sent the PTI senator on three-day judicial detention.

Babar Awan had appealed to the court to issue orders to the FIA to produce his client in the court before 1 pm as the PTI senator had to appear before another court. Awan’s plea was first denied by the court, but after hearing his arguments, the court ordered the FIA to produce Swati at the earliest.

Swati’s one-day physical remand was extended by the special court on Sunday.

The FIA’s cybercrime wing arrested Swati from his residence in Islamabad on October 13 after he posted a controversial tweet claiming that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz were acquitted in the money-laundering case with the alleged blessing of the army chief.
