Azam Khan Takes Sworn in as Caretaker Chief Minister of KP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan took the oath of his office in Peshawar on Saturday afternoon.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, administered the oath to Azam Khan at a simple but impressive ceremony held at the Governor House.

Earlier in the day, the Governor appointed the consensus choice of opposition and ruling parties and ex-bureaucrat Azam Khan as the caretaker chief minister of KP.

Governor Ghulam Ali early on Saturday signed the notification for appointing Azam Khan as caretaker chief minister and duly issued the notification.

Ruling and opposition reach consensus on Azam Khan’s name

During their Friday meeting, the KP government and the opposition unexpectedly agreed on Azam Khan as the caretaker chief minister.

Azam Khan got an education at the University of Peshawar and then went to Lincoln’s Inn, London, to complete his Barrister-at-Law degree in 1962.

Azam Khan has had a bright and long career as a civil servant in the Govt of Pakistan.

Azam Khan remained Minister for Finance, Planning and Development Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from October 24, 2007, to April 1, 2008. He also served his duties as the Federal Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and the Federal Secretary Ministry of Religious Affairs. Earlier, Azam held important positions in the KP government, serving as the Chief Secretary from September 1990 to July 1993.
