MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming that elections in the Poonch Division had been postponed, describing the information as baseless and contrary to the facts.
In a statement, the Election Commission’s spokesperson confirmed that polling in all constituencies of the Poonch Division will be held on August 10 in accordance with the schedule already issued by the Commission.
The spokesperson urged voters not to pay attention to rumours and to exercise their democratic right by casting their votes on the scheduled polling day.
The Election Commission also assured the public that if any changes to the election schedule become necessary, they will be communicated through official channels in a timely manner.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting the electoral process in a transparent and orderly manner and advised citizens to rely only on official announcements for election-related information.
Azad Kashmir elections are being held in three phases
The AJK general elections are being held in three phases, with the first phase of polling conducted on July 27, 2026, across the Mirpur Division, covering constituencies in the districts of Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber.
While the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections was held on August 2.
The second phase covered nine constituencies in Muzaffarabad division, comprising five seats in Muzaffarabad district and two each in Neelum and Jhelum Valley districts. A total of 207 candidates are competing for these seats.
Polling also took place in all 12 refugee constituencies, which include six seats representing refugees from the Kashmir Valley and six representing refugees from the Jammu region. Another 137 candidates contested these constituencies, taking the total number of candidates in the second phase to 344.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secures majority
Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Monday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had secured a simple majority to form the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after winning 23 of the 45 seats in the legislative assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Sanaullah said the PML-N won 13 seats in the second phase of the AJK elections, including four of the seven constituencies in Muzaffarabad. He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured three seats in the same phase.
PML-N wins majority of refugee seats
Sanaullah said the PML-N also won 10 of the 12 refugee seats, while the PPP secured the remaining two, giving the ruling party a total of 23 seats, enough to claim a simple majority in the 45-member assembly.
He noted that polling in the LA-27 constituency was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, while voting in LA-27 and LA-28 constituencies will be held on Tuesday at 54 polling stations.
The advisor added that the PML-N parliamentary party would meet after the completion of the third phase of elections on August 10 to discuss the formation of the next AJK government.
