INDORE, India: Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were subjected to inappropriate behaviour by a motorcyclist in Indore. The players were en route to a café, following their exhilarating victory over England, when the unsettling incident occurred.
The two cricketers were walking peacefully when a motorcyclist allegedly approached them and inappropriately touched them.
The incident unfolded just a day before the Australian team is set to face South Africa in their crucial final league match of the Women’s World Cup.
After the disturbing encounter, the players immediately reported the incident to their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who acted swiftly, liaising with local security officers to arrange a vehicle for assistance.
Cricket Australia (CA) swiftly confirmed the incident in an official statement, stating, “CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”
According to local media reports, the Indore police have already arrested a suspect connected to the case. Authorities are continuing their investigation, ensuring the players’ safety and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Despite the distressing ordeal, Australia remains perched at the top of the Women’s World Cup points table. However, to secure their position and ensure a spot in the semi-finals, a victory against South Africa is crucial.
A win would guarantee a semi-final clash with India on October 30 in Navi Mumbai, while South Africa would face England in the first semi-final on October 29 in Guwahati.
If Australia falters, they risk dropping to second place and a showdown with England in the first semi-final, with South Africa topping the table and facing India in the second semi-final.
