SYDNEY, Australia: Australian police recovered over 40,000 limited-edition “Bluey” coins, stolen three months prior, from a storage unit in Sydney’s Wentworthville suburb.
The collectible coins, each valued at one Australian dollar, feature Bluey, the beloved animated blue heeler puppy from the popular children’s show of the same name.
The show, produced in Brisbane, premiered in 2018 and has garnered a global fanbase since arriving on Disney+ in 2020.
The theft occurred on July 12 when 63,000 unreleased coins were stolen from a warehouse in Sydney’s Wetherill Park. Following this, authorities launched “Strike Force Bandit”—named after Bluey’s dad—to investigate.
Three suspects have been charged, including a 27-year-old woman believed to have driven two accomplices to the site of the theft. Police are still searching for a fourth individual.
In an earlier raid on July 31, authorities recovered 189 coins, discovering they had been sold to a legitimate coin collector, who was unaware of their origins.
